Jesus told parables that included things like mustard seeds growing and yeast leavening bread in order to talk about the Kingdom of God. What is common to both the mustard seed and yeast is that they involve waiting.
Friends we are in a time of waiting that appears as if it will continue for a time. But waiting can also mean that something is happening, and I want to assure you that something continues to happen at Shepherd of the Hills. And that something is the church. The gathering together of those who follow Jesus. And no shutdown or quarantine can stop the church.
Each week we get better and better at these new technologies. So here is how your virtual church is gathering over the next few days…
Worship This Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
We will once again be offering two unique services, one from each campus this Sunday on our campus Vimeo pages. The videos will be up by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, and we encourage you to watch them on Sunday morning so we can all be in “in” worship together.

Virtual Patio Fellowship Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
One of the best parts of Sunday morning is catching up on the patio after Join with your church family after worship on Sunday mornings. You’ll have the chance to see your friends, and we’ll break people into small groups for some casual connecting. Grab your coffee and donuts for a great time of connecting with Jesus and each other. Since it’s Palm Sunday, pick your favorite Palm photo for your Virtual Background image on Zoom.
All Church Daily Prayer Call: Monday through Saturday at 9:20 a.m.
- Call us direct at 1-339-209-4600 (lines are usually open by 9:10 a.m.)
- Each morning, we gather together by a conference call for a phone-in time of prayer. Led by a pastor or lay leader, this 15-minute call gathers us together in a time of separation. It allows us to share our prayer concerns, and to begin our day in community. All you have to do is dial the direct number above and you’ll be on the call with your church family. When you dial in, please be sure to have your television and any other background noise turned off to help with clarity on the phone call. If you are calling by cell phone, this should be a toll-free call.
If you have a need we want to pair you up with someone who can help. If you want to serve, we want to pair you up with someone in need. And the way we are doing this is through our iServe/iNeed form. Follow the link below and let us know if you are in need or looking to serve. https://sothumc.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/48/responses/new – and sign up. Let’s care for one another during this time.
Community Table Every Wednesday
The Community Table ministry is still serving folks during this time. However, rather than having a sit down meal, we are preparing “grab and go” meals for all who are in need. Pick up a meals between 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the RSM site.
Hunger Sunday – April 5
This Sunday is Hunger Sunday. Since we are worshipping remotely, that means we are not collecting food for South County Outreach. In celebration of Hunger Sunday, if you would like to make a donation to SCO, just click on this link: https://www.sco-oc.org/donation-form/
Please know that Pastor Jon and I are available for pastoral care by phone or video call. In these challenging times, we want you to know that we are here for you if you need us. You can reach us by email at: Pastorjon@sothumc.org or Pastorkarl@sothumc.org.
We will make it through this. Remember the words so often quoted in the Psalms when we are reminded, “God’s steadfast love endures forever.”
Remember, you can continue to be part of making a difference at Shepherd of the Hills through your gifts and pledges. You can drop a check in the mail, you can click the following link and give online, or you can most likely do so through your bank’s online payment options. As we continue to be in ministry and reaching out, your gifts provide a solid foundation to make this a reality.
Thank you to everyone for your help and patience in these unique days. Keep an eye out for your Daily Happenings to drop in your email box each afternoon, with the latest updates at Shepherd of the Hills. God bless.
